I am picking the topic of publishing scientific work for my first series of blogs.  There are many reasons why this is an interesting and important topic for discussion.  First, for better or worse, scientific papers have become our “currency” for evaluation.

How many papers one should aim to publish as a graduate student or postdoc?  Some may offer this quick response- publish as many papers as possible!  However, I would caution against such a strategy

This blog describes a project to create a web-based “dating game”, which is designed to allow job applicants to make their interests/credentials available to as many institutes/universities as possible and to allow directors/chairs to quickly search for applicants that might suit their needs.

Universities need to recruit better junior faculty, as they will infuse new energy into the system and become the university’s future and leadership.  This is a small numbers game- a couple of good senior mentors together with 3-4 junior faculty can completely change the character and culture of a department.
